However, Activision didn't confirm who will be the one to develop it. According to ScreenRant's latest report, Sledgehammer was previously tasked to release a "Call of Duty" in 2020. However, since it had some issues with Raven Software, which it had partnered to develop the game, the project underwent major changes.

Because of this, Activision passed the game's development to Treyarch and told the developer to release "Call of Duty" 2020 earlier than expected. This just shows that Activision's decision is unpredictable since it could choose any of the developers to make the upcoming "Call of Duty" 2021.

Previously, Tom Henderson, a game industry insider, claimed that the upcoming title would be released on Nov. 21, 2021. He even showed a graph showing the release pattern of Activision's "Call of Duty" series. Henderson also believed that Sledgehammer might be the one developing it right now since it is still working on an alleged shooting game since 2019.
