A woman from Roanoke, Virginia, has recently trended because of her viral post where she wore an "ugly as homemade sin" dress from retail store, Target, with the #TargetDressChallenge of 2021. The dress is an old-school clothes that was worn in the early 1900s, and the woman has claimed that it was sold on Target despite suffering in the pandemic.
Lesley Butterfield instantly became an internet celebrity after posting a hilarious status on social media, Facebook, complete with all the pictures of her detailing her life as a woman from the olden days. The woman also shared the photo scenes as if she was in the American countryside, doing all the hard labor for herself and her family.
The post that was created last Sunday, January 31, has already gathered a massive 20,000 reactions, more than 9,800 comments, and a massive 27 thousand shares on the platform. Butterfield has also had an internet trend that was featured on different publications and news websites, calling the dress to be something that was taken from the "prairie."
Target Dress Challenge: How it Started
While there were no reasons on how the challenge started, Lesley Butterfield shared on Facebook that the reason for why the challenge started is because of her stumbling upon a dress on popular retail store, Target. Instead of a trendy, modern, and generation-appropriate dress sold on the store, the prairie dress stood out as she was browsing on Target.
Jokingly, the #targetdresschallenge post of Butterfield contained a Journal Entry that mimics the people of the early days who usually updates their diaries instead of social media posts and statuses. Here, she mocked Target, the dress, and the pandemic that has pushed her to do manual labor works, as lockdown restrictions has forced her to churn butter.
Moreover, Lesley Butterfield mentioned a massive amount of the olden days' stereotypes including a train that delivers snail mail from friends and family, cooking rhubarb cobbler from a dutch oven, and China porcelains. The photo credits was to Butterfield's 10 year old son, who was able to capture the scenery of old Roanoke, Virginia.
Target Dress Challenge: A Scene of the American Countryside
According to WFXR Fox, Butterfield was surprised that her post trended, as she did not expect people to be interacting with the challenge. Moreover, her reason for starting the challenge is because of the hilarious dress that was seen on Target, and wanted to show the public that such a dress exists in the retail store.
Lesley Butterfield's photos on Facebook included several props and equipment to capture the old American countryside, particularly during the era of the early life where people dress from several inches above the ankle, to their wrists. The trendsetter has regarded that life during the pandemic made her reflect that it almost has the same experiences to the "Frontier Era."
