Last year, gamers saw the really long-awaited launch for the Sony PS5, the latest edition to the company's popular gaming console. 2020 was also very notable in that it was said to be the 20th anniversary of the beloved PS2, which still remains the best-selling console recorded of all time. There were over 155 units sold and this is no small accomplishment at all.
Is the PS5 going to be worth it?
The PS5 is said to be backwards compatible to just a particular point, in that players will still be able to play all of the PS4 games whether they be disc or coming from PlayStation store download. There are selected games coming from some older systems that are also available to purchase digitally. However, discs coming from those consoles are NOT going to work with the PS5.
According to an article by TomsGuide, with its success aside, the once really popular PS2 would now be obsolete. The system is now just over a month away from the console being legally old enough to drink. The system was previously discontinued around the world back in 2013 and has also been succeeded by a strong bunch of three different consoles. Well, it would be four if players would count the said PS4 Pro since it is said to still be its own thing.
PS5 vs Xbox Series X
Not to mention, the console had its biggest draw, the DVD player, which has long been replaced by Blu-rays, digital downloads, and streaming. This is reportedly one big problem that Sony has faced for a while in the past, backwards compatibility.
Meanwhile, their competitor, the Xbox Series X can now play games that date all the way back up to 2001 during the original launch of the Xbox. Not all of them, however, but just good enough to be a major selling point for this particular console. Players will be able to easily pop in their disc, sit back, then proceed to enjoy their games.

Xbox advantage
Things, however, were not always that way. While the previous Xbox 360 is capable of playing almost the whole Xbox catalogue, the newer Xbox One could not say the very same during its launch. The Xbox 360 game support did not arrive until about two years later back in 2015. The gamers still reportedly had to wait for another two years before they would be able to play the original Xbox titles on Microsoft's latest machine. Fortunately, the company did not repeat those mistakes along with the Xbox Series X.
According to an article by HonestProsCons, there are also two other weaknesses with the new PS5 console. These PS5 disadvantages, aside from the console's backwards compatibility is its limited storage and its size. There are also a few PS5 problems that players are experiencing with the console. However, these are just minor as of the moment.
