Rare's original remaster of "GoldenEye 007" has now been brought to light as the footage of the cancelled Xbox 360 video game has been leaked online. Now rumors are swirling that a playable version of the said game could appear before 2021 ends.

GoldenEye 007 leaked footage

Back in 2002, Microsoft bought Rare, and the developer was first expected to bring many of its old Nintendo games into the Xbox console.

Rare then released the upgraded versions of the almost all of its old Nintendo games, and many of which are available as part of the Rare Replay collection.

Those who own an Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Game Pass can play beloved games like "Banjo-Kazooie" and "Perfect Dark" now by using the backward compatibility features of the system.

One of the most famous games developed by Rare for the Nintendo console was "GoldenEye 007", which was back then exclusive for Nintendo 64. The Nintendo 64 helped popularize the multiplayer first-person shooters on game consoles.

To date, "GoldenEye 007" has never been re-released on any other platform, and the only way to play the video game is through a Nintendo 64 or through emulation. Although there have been other James Bond games released over the past few years, but the "GoldenEye 007" has never been remade.

Thanks to the Nintendo Gigaleak, there have been numerous leaks of the video game over the past year, but the latest footage that is making its rounds online is a massive one.

A remaster of "GoldenEye 007" was in development for Xbox Live Arcade before, but the production was cancelled before it was even completed.

There have been rumors about a playable build circulating online over the past few months, and fans of the game are excited to see the game again after two decades.

YouTube Graslu00 has uploaded a longplay video of the "GoldenEye 007", which is the Xbox Live Arcade version of the game. The channel received massive attention as the video showed a complete run of the game and a couple of multiplayer maps.

Graslu00 said that the "GoldenEye 007" leak is not connected to a password-protected leak of the video game that was posted on 4Chan before. He believes that a playable version will be released before the end of 2021, but they did not give any more details.

Nick Burton, Rare's senior software engineer, stated the reason why the game was cancelled. He said that Nintendo was not responsible for the cancellation of the video game on Xbox 360 because Nintendo has no ownership over the license. The multiple owners of the James Bond movie franchise are responsible for the cancellation of the project.

James Bond fans can expect a flood of content, aside from the rumored "GoldenEye 007" release this year, "Hitman" developer IO Interactive is making a James Bond game, according to ScreenRant.

The said game is expected to be of high quality if it is anything like the popular "Hitman" games, but the allure of the "GoldenEye 007" can't be replicated. This is why fans are holding their breath and waiting for the rumored re-release
