Elon Musk's popular electric car company had just notified its customers on Friday that Tesla is now offering collision repairs! This is something that the company has been talking about all the way back in 2018.
Tesla repairs
In a particular message towards customers that was titled "Collision Repair is Here" the company had detailed its ability to now fix everything coming from dents and scratches all the way to suspension and even axle damage in its very own service centers as a particular alternative option to going to a body shop.
According to the story by CNBC, services that include collision repairs should be able to represent a much bigger revenue segment for Tesla over the course of time as its own cars age out of the given warranty and the company still delivers more of them all around the world. Tesla has previously reported a whopping $678 million from combined revenue from Services and Other segments that the company got in Q4 of 2020.
Tesla service centers: now include collision repairs
Tesla now operates a whopping 140 service centers all over North America alone. The company is now aiming to open up a few more which would include 46 during the first half of 2021. This information was revealed by Jerome Guillen, the Tesla President of Automotive back on Wednesday.
Service has also now been a sore point for a number of Tesla customers over the span of the recent months. This was even to the point wherein investors had asked executives regarding the Q4 2020 earnings call. Basically,
Tesla President of Automotive: 'no service' is the goal
Tesla was asked regarding what they are now doing in order to improve service experience. It was noted that the company already has a good reputation for its outstanding customer service. It was then stated that now, it's still quite impossible to even call a certain service center and that the appointments are already scheduled for weeks out.
Guillen then answered that for them, the best service is actually no service. This was why they were spending a lot of their efforts trying to be able to improve the overall quality as well as reliability of their cars. During the last two years, it was reported that the frequency of service visits were then reduced by a third. This meant that customers would have to come in less frequently which was noted as "really the goal" referring to "no service."
Tesla mobile service
An article by Electrek back in June 2019 noted how the service centers and mobile service by Tesla offered bodyworks and more. Now the service has grown to collision repairs as well.
He then emphasized that Tesla would also offer "mobile services" when Tesla service vehicles and auto mechanics would go to fix the customer's own car. Mobile visits currently amount to 40% of all of the service visits over in North America and Tesla now wants that particular number to be able to increase up to 50% in 2021. This was according to Guillen.
