Tesla is now branching out, and will no longer just focus on vehicles. The car company will install a game console in its electric cars and this idea could compete with popular game consoles such as Xbox and Steam.

New Tesla gaming computer

Tesla announced a new game console inside its vehicles after the company unveiled the new Tesla Model S and the Tesla Model X.

In-car gaming can work through 10 teraflops of processing power, which is exactly the same processing power used in today's consoles through Tesla Arcade. Since it has a wireless controller compatibility, you can enjoy gaming from any seat inside the car.

Patrick Schur, a chip leaker known on social media, posted a diagram of Tesla's gaming computer that is powered by AMD Navi 23 GPU.

The AMD Navi 23 GPU system is fully integrated and it connects directly to the two touchscreens in the vehicles so passengers can play games. The two touchscreens can also be used to watch movies.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, also revealed that the new computer in Model S and Model X will have more storage space to accommodate more video games on the platform at the same time.

According to Videocardz, the diagram that Schur posted showed that the specs from Tesla matches well with the specs of the latest-generation consoles.

Tesla to compete with Steam and Xbox

Electrek reported back in August 2020, Tesla assembled a team of software engineers in Seattle, Washington whose sole purpose was to create video games for the electric vehicle. A similar team is currently being assembled in Austin, Texas.

Tesla has also created their own platform called Tesla Arcade into its cars and they had partnered with video game studios so video games can be transferred to them.

In December 2020, Musk posted on Twitter that he believes entertainment will be important when cars drive themselves, citing that Tesla's goal in 2021 is to produce more electric vehicle with video game features in them.

To prepare for that goal, Tesla has released more video games in its Tesla Arcade platform and has stated that it could turn it into a business this year.

Tesla also plans to offer paid packages of video games in its cars, which is the same strategy being done by Valve's Steam, Xbox Live Store and PlayStation Store.

Games you can play on Tesla

One of the most famous video games of 2020 is "The Witcher 3" and that is available on Tesla Arcade. Tesla owners can also play "Cuphead", "Stardew Valley", and "Fallout Shelter". Owners can also enjoy "I Am Dead" and "Beach Buggy Racing 2".

For those who can't get their hands on a new PS5 but owns a Tesla Model S, you can now play PS5 video games sitting in your vehicle. This could be perfect for long car rides.

Tesla has not announced if it will be adding more video games in its Model S and Model X electric vehicles this year, but since Tesla Arcade has partnered up with video game companies that are also connected to Xbox and Steam, there is a possibility that there are more to come.
