There was actually a familiar time back then when phablets were still viewed with a lot of suspicion or ridicule and this was when some smartphone makers would decide to launch the smaller versions of certain premium flagships. Samsung had its own Galaxy mini while Sony had its very own Xperia Compact.
Xperia Compact 2021: Sony mini flagship
According to the story reported by Slashgear, these larger screens, however, then became the actual norm and those smaller premium phones started to vanish. Until now, it remains to be seen when the trend will start to reverse into that direction and pave a way for the new Xperia Compact's awaited return.
In the past, certain smartphone makers had argued that people actually wanted bigger and bigger screens. However, the truth of the matter slowly revealed that this was not entirely true. Today, however, there has also been quite a push back against the earlier trend with smartphone makers starting to bring back the smaller sized phones.
Mini flagship phones: iPhone SE and iPhone 12 mini
The push abc is especially seen with companies like Apple as it had launched the iPhone SE as well as the iPhone 12 mini. For years, Sony was reportedly believed to be trying to revive the Xperia Compact and the article by Slashgear suggests that now might be the perfect time.
According to the report on Voice by @OnLeaks, the Xperia Compact won't really be that compact, however. The upcoming smartphone is expected to be only 5.5 inches and still a bit larger than the iPhone 12 mini but still technically smaller in comparison to the other flagship phones. The phone will be having a display of 140 x 68.9 x 8.9 mm which is still pretty decent for a smaller phone.
Sony comeback
Part of the believed reason for its new bulk is due to the presence of certain thick bezels all around. The Xperia Compact now seems to be borrowing a lot of its own design details coming from other older Sony phones. These include details like the phone's rear camera that actually seems to be flushed flat straight against the glass back of the given phone. Fortunately, this would mean that some staples of the past, like the popular 3.5mm headphone jack will also be present.
While innovation is trying to push smartphones into the future like the whole wireless charging which is one of the newest and also most popular innovative technology that is being pushed to users, there are other classical features that can still be appreciated. Smaller phones do have their own advantages when it comes to space and comfortability when used.
Some people do not always bring a bag and most flagship phones barely fit a small pocket. This is why some people prefer smaller phones as opposed to bigger ones. However, this is not the only reason why small phones do have its preferred customers.
