Facebook has released a more powerful image caption-generating AI for the visually impaired, helping them to discern the photo through a smart assistant whenever they have hardships in recognizing the objects. The feature is available for both Facebook and Instagram applications, which also features a speculated secret function for future uses.
Facebook is stepping up for people with physical disabilities, especially those with eyesight troubles as it releases a more powerful artificial intelligence to assist them in the description of a photo. The feature can be turned on and off for anyone through the application's settings and improve dictation with a smart assistant from the social media company.
Browsing to one's feed can now be evolved using an image-analysis AI to examine each photo and describe it to the user who has troubles in recognizing or detecting the objects in their smart devices. Several features in modern-day applications are already adding these assistants to help people in coping up with everyday lives and processes.

Facebook and Instagram Image AI: How to Activate
According to Facebook's blog post, artificial intelligence in the form of technology which they utilized to help blind people and the visually impaired to see again, via their social media applications and sense of hearing. However, this technology does not necessarily need to be a new pair of eyes or technology's cameras, but AI that analyzes the image and describes through dictation.
The feature is soon coming to Instagram with improved vocabulary but is already available in Facebook's application for testing its capabilities. Users need only to long-press a photo for Android, and iOS smartphones have a custom gesture to trigger the dictate on the photo for its description.
Facebook said that the image-analysis AI is already paired with multiple languages so that it can work anywhere in the world, having a native tongue ready to dictate and describe the image. English may be a universal language but not everyone understands and uses it, and this is the reason why Facebook included foreign languages.
Facebook: Image-Analyzing AI Improvement
Facebook's old feature was initially introduced in 2016, inviting more users to use social media and its application, especially those with disabilities and impairments. Not only do the elderly suffer from the blind and visually impaired (BVI) problems, but it can also be something that several cases from the youth are already experiencing.
According to Tech Crunch, Facebook's technology before involves the users to fill in "alt text" for the AI to dictate whenever a BVI person comes across the post. However, not everyone was filling that section up as they do not know its actual function and use.
This led the social media company to develop artificial intelligence to dictate the images' description and determine for itself. Facebook and Instagram's Image-analysing AI aimed to help the BVI community and invite them into the platform.
