Volkswagen might be having a hard time competing with Tesla until its very first electric vehicles were finally available. The competition between the German automaker and American competitor definitely didn't start smoothly as VW plans to be aggressively competing with Tesla proven by its move over in China. The competition heats up even more with VW ID.4 China release with cheaper prices than Tesla.
VW ID.4 China Release Date and Prices
According to an article by InsideEVs, the VW ID.4 Crozz prices definitely reveal that the SUV will cost less compared to the most affordable Tesla coming from Giga Shanghai. While Tesla charges a whopping RMB 249,900 for its Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus that is made in China. This is equivalent to a whopping $38,571 when converted using the current exchange rate. That car is said to use LFP batteries and even has an NEDC range capable of reaching 468kms or 290.8 miles.
The Volkswagen ID.4Crozz when looking at its most expensive version in China with an impressive range of 550kms or 341.8 miles would only cost RMB 242,888 or a whopping $37,489. There is also reportedly a pricier version for the Volkswagen ID.4 Crozz that will be called the Prime and cost a higher RMB 279,900 or $43,201 but will be capable of reportedly offering a range that surpasses 500 kms or more than 310 miles.
Which is the best electric car in China?
As much as the upcoming EV will be fully loaded when it rolls out, the article by InsideEvs suggests that this is probably not exactly what Chinese customers are currently looking for and that range should be able to play a much more prominent role in this particular choice.
For those that could be happier with reaching 400 km of range, the company Volkswagen actually sells the ID.4 Crozz for a whopping RMB 199,900 or $30,854. There is a massive difference towards what the federal tax credit represents over in the United States.
Is Tesla selling in China?
Although the Chinese customers reportedly fancy Tesla as well as its very own Supercharger network, the prestigious Volkswagen still dominates that market ever since it had become the very first carmaker that was able to set foot over in China back during the 1980s. What it had lacked within the EV segment was actually a competitive offering.
Over in Europe, Tesla had seen falling sales back in 2020 when the traditional automakers all started selling EVs as well as seen in the graphics that were demonstrated by the Schmidt Automotive Research. Although China is considered a large electric car market along with many competitors, these particularly aggressive prices for the VW ID.4 Crozz might even prove to be the biggest threat that would come face to face with Tesla as of the moment.
Will the German carmaker be able to take over Tesla over in China? Tesla is one of the top EV companies in China, could Volkswagen do better than them?
