Apple is reportedly planning a new design for its upcoming MacBook Pro that will mark the return of the MagSafe charger.

The MacBook Pro laptop will come in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes and they will likely be revealed in the third quarter of 2021.

MagSafe returns

According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg and analyst Ming-chi Kuo's reported to 9to5Mac, the new laptops will use the upgraded versions of Apple's ARM-based processors with more cores and upgraded and improved graphics, instead of Intel CPUs.

One some, or even on all new laptop models, it is possible that Apple will remve the Touch Bar, which is a feature that was not well-received by users. It is also planning t add more I/O ports so that you won't have to purchase additional dongles, according to Kuo's statement.

However, the most notable change is the potential return of MagSafe and switching it from the traditional USB-C charging. The latter made it possible for users to use third-party chargers and charge from either side of the laptop, but if you tripped on it or if you forgot to disconnect a cable, it is possible it could damage your laptop.

If MagSafe returns, it could stop that from happening as it allows for faster charging. Also, it was a feature that was well-received by numerous MacBook users.

Apple is also said to be looking at brighter and at higher-contrast displays, according to Gurman. Meanwhile, Kuo believes that the laptop will get a substantial redesign with squared edges on both the top halves and the bottom halves. That plan would better suit the jibe with the design language of the recent iPad Pro models and the 2020 iPhone 12 series.

If the changes do happen, and Apple does not adjust anything before the new laptops are released, the updates would mark a massive shift in philosophy from its current models. It would also undo numerous features that Apple introduced in the MacBook Pro for the past five years.

What is a MagSafe charger?

MagSafe charger for Apple is a fully wireless charging standard. However, it is not just charging as it paves the way for a device that does not need a Lighting port anymore. That means there would be better waterproofing and more room inside the chassis for other features like a bigger battery.

But MagSafe is not just about speed, it also promotes ease of use. One of the biggest issues with wireless charging is finding the right spot where the charger and the device close the circuit, according to HowtoGeek.

This is something that users are familiar with if you have ever put your smartphone on a wireless charging pad and returned minutes later just to find out that it was not charging at all.

MagSafe charger aims to solve this type of issue as it snaps the charger in the right place on the back of the Apple device. This then creates a perfect circuit every time as there will be enough magnetic force to keep the Apple device and charger firmly in place, thus preventing damage to your device.
