Foldable smartphones have gotten so much better over the past year since it was released on the market, especially Samsung's foldable smartphones.

However, it is no secret that these types of devices still have a lot of issues to overcome before they are truly ready for distribution in the mass market. Just this week, the dead of winter has started taking its toll on the environment, and some Samsung foldables are having issues with the very cold weather.

Samsung foldable smartphones are cracking

As reported by SamMobile, there are quite a few users in South Korea who have been noticing that their Galaxy Z Flips and their Galaxy Folds are breaking.

On January 8, the same day that the temperatures in South Korea plummeted as low as -18° C (just under 0° F), two Samsung foldable owners reported that their screens had cracked because of the cold weather. It is possible there are other factors at play, but these users then claim that simply unfolding their phones in the cold caused issues.

Notably, this is not unprecedented too. Last winter, there were reports that came out that cold weather had played a massive role in damaging the original Galaxy Z Flip and the original Moto Razr. Users have also noticed that a slight increase in users with broken screens on the r/GalaxyFold subreddit since the winter season kicked in, though that could just be a coincidence.

Because of this problem, users are asking Samsung to do something to improve the reliability of the products especially since it is very fragile to extreme cold weather, if this problem persists, people may not consider purchasing these foldable devices.

In the meantime, people are waiting to see how Samsung handles the damage. The company's "Premiere Service" warranty is support to provide easy replacements, but despite that, people are still pushing Samsung to step-up on the quality of their foldable devices.

Foldable devices are the future

Samsung's foldable devices that were released in 2020 still needs improvement. But despite it not being ready yet, many believe that it is the future of technology.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, which costs $2,000, was the center of scrutiny among users, yet people are still impressed by how it is built.

There is nothing else on the market today that approaches what Samsung has developed. It delivers a piece of hardware that is doing something very futuristic while retaining the same level of build quality, according to 9to5 Google.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 has brushed metal frame, glass back and a stiff hinge, which all came together in a wonderful way. Many people may argue that no phone is worth $2,000, especially during this period but Samsung's build quality and longevity feels worthy of its price tag.

Of course, there are downsides as the product is not perfect yet. It does have an awkward shape and its tall footprint can feel odd when you place it in your pocket. It is also very thick and it is heavier than regular smartphones.

The narrow shapes can make it awkward to use apps, but the wide screen makes it enjoyable to scroll through your social medial accounts or watch videos.
