Elon Musk has aggressively surpassed Jeff Bezos and is now the richest person in the world just eight days into 2021. The billionaire started the year with a whopping $20 billion gap in comparison to Amazon's Jeff Bezos' wealth. The billionaire actually had a statement back in 2018 about what he would do with his money.

How rich is Elon Musk today?

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Elon Musk's wealth sits at $195 billion while Jeff Bezos is currently worth $185 billion. From being $20 billion behind Jeff Bezos to now $10 billion worth more than Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk has aggressively taken the spot of the richest man in the world only eight days into 2021.

Elon Musk recently pinned a tweet in response to his recent standing as the world's richest man. This tweet was something he released back in October 13, 2018 that was a reply to another tweet where he stated that people should ask why he would want money. The main reason, as he noted, is not what people think. He then noted that he has very little time for recreation and that he does not have vacation homes or even yachts or anything of the sort.

Elon Musk net worth plans

Elon Musk's pinned tweet notes that around half of his total money is actually intended in being able to help problems on planet Earth and the other half is actually to help establish a certain self-sustaining city over on Mars as well as to ensure the continuation of the life of all species. He then stated that this is just in case Earth would be hit by a meteor like what happened with the dinosaurs a while back or should WW3 happen and human beings would destroy themselves.

When Elon Musk was tagged in a tweet by Tesla Owners of Silicon Valley on Twitter that noted Elon Musk as the world's richest person with a whopping $190 billion net worth, Elon Musk simply replied "How strange" followed by "well, back to work..." It seems like Elon Musk did not give much thought to this but in a tweet that later followed, he recognized feedback.

First person to have $200 billion

His following tweet stated that he appreciated the critical feedback as well as other ways to donate his own money in order to make a difference. He also noted that making a difference is actually way harder than it usually seems.

While Jeff Bezos is currently worth $185 billion, he was actually noted as the first person to ever amass a wealth of $200 billion. An article by Forbes back in August 26, 2020 noted Jeff Bezos as the first human being to ever garner a wealth of a whopping $200 billion at 56 years old. Elon Musk, on the other hand, is only $5 billion away from reaching this amount at the age of 49.
