Google's Home Max speakers were officially retired and pulled off from shelves a few weeks ago, Google Store is once again offering a sale for the speakers at a limited time only.

The website shows a message about the device being sold out and it prompts the customers to try out a pair of Google's new Nest Audio devices instead. But the site will still let you purchase a Home Max speaker for only $179.

Google Home Max

Launched in 2017, the voice-activated speaker has amazing sound quality and it plugs directly into Google Assistant's ecosystem. The only difference is that it does not cost $400 anymore this time.

It is not clear how many units of the home speakers were not sold, but according to Android Police, this could be the last chance that you can purchase one if you missed out on the sale last month for Black Friday that dropped the price of the home speaker to only $150, according to Engadget.

You can check out Google's eBay page where the speaker is available in both Charcoal and Chalk with full warranty and free shipping, but it adds an extra $20 discount that is available through December 31.

Home Max features

The Home Max is simple and it is gorgeous. Its smooth contour has rounded edges and a beautiful cloth speaker grille that is installed, the grille and the surrounding matte plastic are one piece.

The cloth has a bit of sheen to it, and white LEDs glow behind the surface to display volume levels. The light sensor adjusts the brightness of LEDs. Beneath the grille, dual 0.7-inch tweeters and dual 4.5-inch woofers deliver clear audio. These drivers are powered by Class D amplifiers.

The speaker measures around 7.5 by 13.3 by 6.1 inches. It is available in white/light gray or black/gray models. It is a bit heavy as it weighs around 11.7 pounds, but that is okay since it is not meant to be portable.

Adjusting the volume on the speaker can be done by using the touch-sensitive surface that runs lengthwise along the speaker's top panel. You can slide your finger left to lower to right to raise volume.

These levels work in conjunction with your mobile device's master levels when you are connected through Bluetooth. The center of the panel, demarcated with a short straight line, is the play and pause button. These controls are very responsive but you can talk to the Home Max. You can ask the speaker to set the volume from one to ten or you can use percentages.

Along the back panel, there is mic switch. This turns the mic of Google Assistant and the speakerphone on and off. The speaker also utilizes an array of six far-field mics to pick up the voice commands from a distance.

At the bottom of the back panel, there is a connection for the included power cable, a USB-C port and a 3.5mm jack for wired audio input. The USB-C port passes through power to charge your phone and it also acts as an Ethernet port with an adapter. However, you can't attach external storage or an audio source to the speaker's USB-C port.
