Nintendo's "Animal Crossing" has given players freedom when it comes to designing their villager's island. For the first time in the series' history, furniture can be placed outside and almost the whole island itself can be shaped into whatever you desire.
Resetting the game to be able to make adjustment means that you will lose items, villagers and the progress you've made. Here are ways on how you can redesign your island while keeping your items.
Clear The Island
You can start by decluttering your island, move all of your buildings to the beach in order to maximize the space that is available for designing and terraforming. Clearing everything will take time, but you can spend time doing research and planning while you move the buildings.
Store All Your Items
Items are much easier to move than buildings are, and they can be tucked away in your house until you need to use them again. But you may find your home's storage reaching capacity because of the influx of outside items.
If you have version 1.6 of the game, consider talking to Tom Nook to upgrade your item storage capacity. This can be helpful for those who love to collect every variant of furniture or clothing items.
Entrust Your Flowers To A Friend
You may have collected flowers during your stay on the island. Unfortunately, they can't be put in storage. What you can do though is you can plant them on the beach, where they won't grow or breed at all in the sand, but you beach will be filled with buildings at this point.
Also, you can get the help of a friend and you can entrust them with your flowers until your new island is ready. It may require some trips back and forth, but it saves a lot of trouble in the long run.
Consider Your Vision
You need to take the time to consider what you want for your new island. From the colors, items, flowers and paths, you can plan everything. Brows other island through Dream Suite, make a moodboard or you can take inspiration from existing places.
Use A Planning Program
Programs are needed when it comes to redesigning an island. Being able to see what something will look like without taking much of your time.
If you want a 3D space, you can check out bubble wand's Island Planner. For 2D planner that has a top-down view, you can try Happy Island Designer.
Practice Terraforming
Terraforming can be a bit confusing and it may take time, but once you get used to it, it will come naturally. Knowing how to build double waterfalls and make curves in cliffs can open up a lot of possibilities for creativity.
Have A Gathering Spot For Villagers
A lot of residents will gather in the plaza of the Town Hall doing activities together. If you want villagers to interact with objects and furniture, they will have to be placed in other locations for them to enjoy. Creating a gathering spot for the villagers is something you can add for long-term use.
Check Your Rating With Isabelle
It is best to check in with Isabelle if you want that 5-star rating. Isabelle can also tell you if there are things that your island needs to have. If you don't get a 5-star rating, it is possible your island is lacking something.
