There is a recent story that has started gaining traction as it claims that there were 500,000 GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs that had recently gone missing during a certain transit. These allegedly missing GPUs were then said to be found in a particular unlabeled shipping container over in South Korea. The story even noted that there was even a certain quote from Nvidia on the matter as the company explained to the shareholders.

An article by PCGamer, however, confirms that none of this actually happened. The news was arguably met with dismay as suddenly finding a massive half million of the missing Ampere GPUs could definitely relieve most of the frustrated gamers with new stock of the RTX 30 series as demand is skyrocketing and supply is low.
It has now actually been a full three months ever since the initial Ampere part was released to retail known as the GeForce RTX 3080 and it remained very hard to find through first-party sellers selling the GPU at the SRP and not jacking it up. This is the same for the other GeForce RTX 30 series namely the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, GeForce RTX 3070, and the GeForce RTX 3090.

The original report regarding the lost GPUs go way back to the website Geeknetic.ed, which, according to the Google translation of the story, wrote that a certain employee at a known Samsung subsidiary port warehouse over in South Korea had noticed that there was a stack of boxes along with Nvidia's logo that was stamped on them. However, these weren't listed on any of the port's official records.
It was also stated that the employee himself had been trying to buy the popular GeForce RTX 30 series GPU but was not successful at all. Seeing the boxes of these cards allegedly only added to the employee's frustration of not being able to get one. There were also pictures on the website that made the story very convincing.

Once the news started to get popular, the author of the article then added an update noting this was actually fake news. It was published on December 28 which is Spain's Holy Innocents Day. The content of it is actually false and was created with a certain form of satirical humor intentionally.
In Spain, December 28 is actually their version of the popular April Fools' Day, according to Thoughtco. This time of the year, it is reportedly common for certain false news stories and other jokes or ironic stories to be published with a humorous slant. The discovery of this news being fake or satirical has mixed reviews. Some people are happy to find out the truth while others are in dismay as there aren't actually 500,000 GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs lying around in some part of the world that can still be bought online.
