Volkswagen recently unveiled an innovation that would surely help the company mobilize its electric vehicle charging method and at the same time, cut costs on parking lots that provides recharging to drivers. The new EV Mobile Charging Robots brings a 25kWh battery packs that it would use to fast charge vehicles without the need to get out of the car.
Yes, that is right, Volkswagen's innovation is not a new charging station per se, but a mobile charging robot that would come directly to the electric vehicle when approached. Think of it as this way: it would be like the gasoline stations that have employees or staff that would pump the gasoline for drivers, without the need to leave the vehicle.
Only in Volkswagen's case, it would be for electric vehicles and robots would be the assistive staff. According to Volkswagen's YouTube video and description, it would center more on restricted parking spaces like underground car parks to still make electric vehicle charging available.
Most power stations in the country are bought or rented, and then constructed its charging stations, either directly connected to the power grid or relying in solar power technology for the energy requirements. The German automaker plans to change that for the better, without the need for construction, installation, and renting new locations.
This venture by Volkswagen would not only help in bettering charging methods for its electric vehicle owners, but also attract new customers who have no nearby charging stations, which they can stop and recharge. The mobile charging robots can be deployed anywhere and only using an application to summon the robots to fill up the vehicle.

Volkswagen Mobile Charging Robot: Butler or R2-D2?
The VW Mobile Chargine Robot is like a butler that is on call whenever users need its help or assistance. With just a click on the app that utilizes "Car to X communication," it can approach the EV and begin charging. Moreover, it has a DC 50KW ratings that can fast charge electric vehicles, even in its mobile state.
Then it would return to its charging station whenever its 25kWh battery packs have run out of juice, having other mobile robots do the job for other vehicles. Apart from a butler, the robot also resembles a real-life "R2-D2" from the "Star Wars" franchise that approaches its owner and obeys its command on a series of tasks its presented.
However, in this case, it can only charge vehicles. Also, this mobile charging robot is still a prototype from VW, and finished products still have no official release date.
Volkswagen's Mobile Charging Robot: Can it Be Used for Home?
Currently, there are no news or information from Volkswagen as to whether the Mobile Chargine Robot can be sold to its customers, particularly those who own more than one EVs at their disposal. This robot can also be cost effective for customers as the need to install home charging stations to fast charge their EVs would not be burdened by the costs and space for its location.
