Apple has announced year-ending numbers for the App Store, saying that its customers spent more than $10 billion at the App Store buying apps last year. In December alone, customers spent $1 billion at the App Store and downloaded 3 billion apps making it the record month for App Store.
With these astounding figures, developers of the apps have now earned $15 billion on the App Store.
"We'd like to thank our customers for making 2013 the best year ever for the App Store," said Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. "The lineup of apps for the holiday season was astonishing and we look forward to seeing what developers create in 2014."
Apple credited the splurge to its latest mobile operating system iOS 7 and pointed that the latest update spurred developers to cook apps from ground, taking advantage of the new interface. iOS 7, that was introduced in September last year, provide developers with more than 200 new features and APIs.
Presently the App Store has more than one million apps for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and half of them are optimized for iPads.
