Tesla has announced that it will start rolling out a software update that could show a range increase for its 2021 Model 3 cars. Update 2020.48.12 will enable more range for the Standard Range and Long Range variants.
Tesla software update
According to Tesla hacker "Green", who posted on his Twitter account, the range increase is limited to the 2021 models, because it looks like the update is made to reflect the car's battery capacity and for them to be able to do it more accurately.
Green has previously discovered efficiency improvement in the software of Tesla for the 2021 refresh and has since been tweeting updates about the company's vehicles, according to Engadget.
The company has introduced hardware upgrades for the 2021 Model 3 and Model Y cars that expanded their range capacities.
All the hardware upgrades include a better and bigger 82 kWh battery for some Model 3 Tesla cars. The software update will prompt a note that states it will display a higher range to reflect the capacity of the battery more accurately.
With that said, even vehicles that did not get delivered with the updated 82 kWh battery pack could show a longer range capacity after the system update. There have been posts on social media about how they've witnessed a 9-mile range increase even if they have a 77 kWh version of the 2021 Model 3.
The software update could mean that it will give range on display changes and it will also have efficiency improvements for the cars, according to Screen Rant.
Tesla 2021 Model 3
In the electric-vehicle marketplace, one of the more affordable options is the 2021 Tesla Model 3. The vehicle has the styling cues from Tesla's Model S sedan and Model X SUV, but it still prides itself with a unique interior design and an all-glass roof.
The acceleration is fast and the chassis received a sportier suspension. It also delivers in speediness and handling. The base model offers up to 263 miles of driving range according to the EPA, and the more expensive Long Range model can go up to 353 per charge.
So what is new for 2021? Tesla is giving its entry level Model 3 sedan a lot of enhancements for 2021, including exterior styling elements that have changed bright chrome for black trim.
Also, the company added three new wheel designs to give the cars a fresh look, and the trunk lid is power-operated. The upgrades on its appearance continue inside where the vehicle's metallic door-sill protectors have the black satin trim to match the color of the exterior.
The vehicle's center console has been redesigned to accommodate two wireless smartphone charging pads, with the sun visors now use a magnet in order to hold them in place.
The seat-adjustment controls and the infotainment scroll wheels that are mounted into the steering wheel have new finishes. Most important of all, the Model 3 has an improved driving range, with Standard Range Plus increasing to 263 miles per charge and the Long Range model has 353 miles per charge.
