Tesla is looking at a busy 2021 as Elon Musk confirmed rumors of the Model Y's new structural architecture and 4680 Tabless battery cells that would soon be sent to Gigafactory Berlin for future manufacturing. The company's Gigafactory Berlin would become the new haven for Model Y manufacturing, featuring new technology to be used for vehicle production.
Elon Musk confirms all this in a tweet (@elonmusk), after replying to an article that presented rumors of the soon-shipping Model Y prototypes to Gigafactory Berlin. The Tesla CEO said that the "world's most advanced cells" would be made on-site, also with its structural architecture body, advanced paint shop, and body castings.
Indeed, those are numerous tasks for Gigafactory Berlin, but it would be enough to handle the load as it would initially focus on Model Y productions right out the gate. Musk added that production timing would be "hard to predict," which is the CEO trying to tell the public that there would still be no definite time on the new Model Y's release.
September's Battery Day gave the public a little teaser on what would be coming on Tesla's promise of its in-house creation and design of a new battery cell to become self-sufficient. This promise was referring to the 4680 Tabless battery cell design that would be more robust compared to current batteries that are used on Tesla's vehicles.
