Google has recently brought improvements to its current dark mode for Chrome browsers. It is now expected to be able to roll out for both Windows 10 and the macOS soon. However, before the official roll-out, it now looks like the company has a few other plans up on its sleeves. Google is reportedly testing the brand new dark mode feature specifically for its desktop browser that displays the search result.
Is there a dark mode for Google Desktop?
According to the report made by 9to5Google, the official California-headquartered company is now testing a certain dark theme for its current desktop search. According to the images shown, it reveals that the white background has now been replaced with the dark grey hue. Moreover, the official Google logo is located somewhere at the top left corner of the shown search results. This is generally more colorful and is now replaced with a new white-colored logo.
The overall look is said to match the dark mode version of the Google official search app on the mobile. For reference, the previous dark mode over on Google's own mobile app has been rolling out ever since May of this year.
Google Search dark mode
The report then goes on to say that the new dark mode still is not presented on the known Google.com homepage. However, everything could change with the known official launch of this new feature. As of the moment, the new feature seems to be rolling out for a smaller number of users.
According to a certain user on Reddit who has reportedly seen the new dark mode on Google's own website, this feature has randomly turned on without the user doing anything at all. The feature then automatically reverts back to its original light mode in only a short amount of time.
The user then noted that the dark mode did not come with any toggle button. This meant that the user was not able to turn this feature off while it was still active. This could potentially change with Google's final rollout.
Is Dark mode better for your eyes?
According to the story reported by PocketNow, Google is now tipped to be updating its own WebUIs in order to bring a more complete dark mode experience. The description noted changes in the scrollbar which appear in grey color. The new feature is stated to apply the new dark theme to certain additional elements that include the scrollbars. As of the moment, this does not show any changes when people change from light mode to the dark mode.
With the constant increase of technology usage, the need for dark mode has increased as this has proven not only to be an efficient way of saving the device's power but also protect the users' eyesight. The use of dark mode decreases the light on the screen which could possibly cause irritation or even possibly become the reason for poor eyesight. However, according to an article by AllAboutVision, dark mode is not for everyone as it could cause more harm for some.
