This new scheme allows hackers to increase the pressure and make their victims doubt that their backups are not safe. The security experts believe that different hackers are outsourcing these calls to one call-center agency of non-native English speakers.
Once the hackers call their victims, they'll tell them that restoring their files from backups are useless. They'll add that the ransomware has taken control of your account for a long time and the only way to get it back is to pay the ransom.
What should you do if your account was hacked?
PC Mag explained that people shouldn't use the same password on multiple accounts. Why? Because once the hackers breached your email account, other accounts using the same password are also compromised.
If you confirmed that you are account is really breached by cybercriminals, you can call your email provider and change the password of your account. On the other hand, there are many ways to protect your accounts, especially those that you use for your credit cards. Apple Pay and Android Pay are among the safest apps you can use currently since they are more secure than physical credit cards. For more information, just click here.
