Elon Musk: 'No Such Thing as Rocket Scientist, Only Rocket Engineers'

Elon Musk has been the front of both science and engineering with two major companies that display these two fronts astonishingly. In his recent Twitter post, the CEO of both SpaceX and Tesla, gave us a quick lecture about the so-called "rocket scientists" and "rocket engineers." The two mentioned companies have been treading their way through uncharted scientific and engineering waters.

Science, Engineering, and Technology

In Elon Musk's recent Tweet, he explained his thoughts as to what is the difference between engineers and scientists. It was stated that science, in general, is discovering the essential truths particularly about what exists within the Universe while engineering, on the other hand, is actually about creating certain things that once never existed.

The billionaire then clarified the alleged misconception of much of what people think of as science is actually really engineering. He then gave an example by stating that there is actually no such thing as the term "rocket scientist" but there is only rocket engineers. He then explained that it was rocket engineers that were able to put human beings on the moon itself.

Elon Musk SpaceX

SpaceX has notably introduced the utilization of reusable rockets in order to cut the costs of space expeditions drastically. This efficiency is one of Elon Musk's trademarks that is also seen through his other companies. SpaceX is now working closely with NASA and has just successfully launched the Crew-1 mission to send astronauts to the ISS.

Due to this accomplishment, the company has been able to showcase just how far it has gone since they first started. When SpaceX began, Elon Musk was met with failure after failure after failure and with just enough funding for one last flight, the company was able to not only save itself from bankruptcy but also plunge it towards other future successes.

Aside from SpaceX's ultimate plan to go to Mars, the company is also fronting Starlink which will ideally provide satellite internet connection to parts of the world suffering from problematic signals. Starlink has already launched a couple of hundred satellites into space but still plans to launch thousands more before it publicly rolls out.

Elon Musk Tesla

Tesla, on the other hand, is one of Elon Musk's pride and joy as the EV company has been able to compete with not just other EV companies but also in the auto industry in general. Although relatively smaller than other brands, the EV company has been able to achieve quite an astonishing growth both in stock and in market share.

According to an article by CleanTechnica back in May 2020, the company's Tesla Model 3 has even been able to achieve the top selling car in California! This is not just in competition with other electric cars but with other cars in general. Due to this growth, and many other accomplishments, Elon Musk's net worth has now soared and he is now notably the 2nd richest person in the whole world!
