A Canadian inventor may have found the best solution against coronavirus with his COVID-19 helmet that feels like standing under an umbrella.
Vyzr Technologies co-founder Yezin Al-Qaysi invented a shield called BioVyzr that promises complete protection from all angles with an air purification system built-in at the back.
BioVyzr Helmet protects better than face masks
Back in April, Al-Qaysi came up with the idea of the when infection in Canada began adding up. a Canadian inventor of a $379 COVID-19 helmet
"Living with someone who's immunocompromised, I've always known the limitations of masks... in this case it was my Mum," Al-Qaysi told Business Insider adding that he became really worried about her mother's situation.
He said that when breathing in with a mask, the air can even traverse through the gaps around the jaw and nose while N95 masks' filter can only be as effective as their fit," he said.
Al-Qaysi noted that in an enclosed space like an airplane, some people who are not wearing a mask would cancel all others who wear masks because they would be breathing in air. He also added that failure to communicate properly while wearing a mask would have psychological effect on people.
This is what makes BioVyzr unique as it allows people to open up their faces again while filtering the air they breathe in and out, protecting the vulnerable ones. This is because the device is enclosed from the head and stretches to the chest.
BioVyzr COVID-19 Helmet promises full COVID-19 protection
While his helmet is relatively big and weighs 2.5 kilograms, it does not touch the wearer's face and hair, rest on the head, or put strain on neck as well as does not irritate the skin. "It just feels like you're standing under an umbrella," said Al-Qaysi who wears the helmet all the time.
He added that he is receiving mixed reactions from people he is in public wearing the shield. The inventor said some people think it is "ridiculous" while others do not care even if "it looks like an alien invasion."
Aside from high-risk people, the BioVyzr COVID-19 Helmet aims to help people who are encountering hundreds of people face-to-face daily like dentists, healthcare staff, teachers as well as public transportation officers who have higher risk of contracting the virus since social distancing may be close to impossible.
Meanwhile, using the BioVyzr would force users to speaker louder as well as listen more cautiously as the anti-fogging shield makes it quite hard to communicate. However, Al-Qaysi suggested using earpods with a hearing aid app, which can easily turn their pods into a hearing aid.
Vyzr Technologies has launched its campaign as it aims to manufacture BioVyzr in April. After only a month, the crowd-funding campaign already raised $753,730 via Indiegogo. The company also said it already sold around "tens of thousands" of BioVyzr, which will be hipped it mainly to the US, Canada, and the UK.
