The Manchester United Football Club (MUFC) faced a cyber-attack over the weekend that may have taken down the team's entire system if it were not for its quick actions and readiness to face hacks on its rehearsals. The football club's IT team disclosed that fans' data remain safe, and speculations point to Russian or Chinese hackers to launch the attack.
The United Kingdom-based football team, Manchester United, would soon return its regular systems back online after sweeping and ensuring a safe environment for its affected systems or servers. This attack is one of the nastiest threats that the football club faced this November and 2020, but they did not back out of the fight.
Manchester United: Cyber Attack Came from Russia or China
The team is one of the world's most famous and favorite football club, receiving massive recognition from fans and critics globally. The attack was a specific targetting for MUFC, and being a big company; its IT teams were prepared for anything to happen in its cyber systems.
According to The Sun UK, Manchester United's IT team suspects that this is the work of Chinese or Russian hackers because of the uncanny pieces of evidence present in the cyber attack. "Hallmarks" or the hack's designation were recognizable that the team was able to identify and point out two of the suspected hackers' possible designations.
However, despite identifying where the attack came from, Manchester United's IT team are still blindsided by the threat actors and what kind of attack came to its systems. The football club did not disclose what attack came upon its systems upon the numerous types, including malware, ransomware, trojan, virus, etc.

Manchester United Cyber Attack: Fans' Data is Safe and Rapid Action Saves the Day
MUFC's cyber-attack came over the weekend, but its IT team rapidly and effectively shut down the targeted and affected servers during the initial breach. By doing this, Manchester United's data bore protection from more extensive damage and threats.
According to Computer Weekly, Manchester United's IT team received praises because of its rapid actions that prevented a wider-scale attack from taking over its systems. Because of the IT team's actions, there were no personal and fan data taken or accessed by the elusive hackers.
The Red Devil's management statement commends its IT team to control the situation early and prevent the hackers from causing further damage to its cyber environment. Additionally, MUFC was ready to defend against these hacks and attacks because of its rehearsals that prepared the team to face such dark schemes.
The attack did not affect Manchester United's media and smartphone application operations, continuing its broadcast and normal operations as if nothing happened internally. Moreover, the Red Devils continued its home match in Old Trafford, against West Bromwich Albion and won 1-0 in last Saturday's game.
