The voter database of Wisconsin's state is now being leaked to a notorious cybercriminal website called "RaidForums" that exposes massive sensitive information of American citizens allegedly bought online. The massive voter data leak came from a malicious website which claims that it purchased the data for a sum of $25,000.
The midwestern state of Wisconsin is seeing a massive voter database leak during the aftermath of the 2020 US National Elections that allegedly holds several sensitive information of its citizens. This attack focuses on exposing the identities and personal lives of the state's voters.
Cybersecurity Firm Discovers Wisconsin's Voter Database 2020 Leak
According to Fox News, a cybersecurity firm, Digital Shadows, initially discovered the voter data leak and confirms that it is indeed available for public access in a notorious cybercrime website. The massive data leak was bought from still unknown entities that had access to Wisconsin's database.
The cybercrime forums website is famous for containing several items that are taken forcibly or under criminal acts. The website under the alias "thedonald.win" claims to purchase the leaked data from Wisconsin's Badger Voters's website that is a government domain and managed by the State of Wisconsin's Elections Commission.
The Wisconsin Badger Voter's website is a platform where users can request information about voter data and receive an estimate for the requested data. The website requires monetary payment in exchange for the data that will be given via a file that is downloadable for the customer that made the request.
The leaker and website claim to have purchased the "full" list of Wisconsin's voter data which they initially posted on "thedonald.win" before the social forums website. The purchase amounted to a total sum of $25,025 which the leaker claims to have paid in completely by his or herself.
Wisconsin's Voter Data Leak 2020: What is the Information Leaked?
The list contains all of the information that concerns the voter data of Wisconsin's citizens. This includes the full names, registered address, email addresses, mobile phone numbers, etc. While there are currently no threats that surface surrounding the newly leaked data, Digital Shadows believe it would have implications on the country's future elections.
Additionally, voter fraud and identity theft are also top threats that surround the voter database that is currently available for extensive public access. The data is only available for IP addresses within the country and would not be leaked to anyone outside of American soil, including renowned election hackers from Russia, etc.
RaidForum's website contains the data from two separate links that holds downloadable files from Wisconsin's voter data. A user called "Hater" uploaded the links on RaidForums last November 11, at 10:42 am, which currently have a massive 12,000 user upvotes.
