It seems like Apple has gained the confidence of Hollywood as it has welcomed Apple's very first M1 Macs even noting it as one of the best news from Apple in over a decade. Another honorable mention that could be huge for editors would also be the Mac Mini.
Hollywood comments on the new Apple M1 Macs
According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences member known as Michael Cioini in his announcement showed that Apple definitely still cares about those creative pros. In an article by Hollywood Reporter, it was stated that Michael Cioni, the senior vice president innovation at the tech developer known as Fame.io, pointed out that that way after the 2013 "trashcan" debut of the Mac Pro, Apple has been continually receiving strong criticism in both the media and entertainment community.
This was due to Apple's supposed "abandoning" of creative professionals. This then prompted the Mac Pro redesign back in 2019 that was aimed at these professionals. Cioni stated that he now believes that the announcement signals the computer maker actually continuing its commitment in order to meet the needs of the creative professionals of today.
Michael Cioni comments on the previous Mac Pro
This was also followed by Cioni noting that Apple indeed included this particular part of its customer needs in the recent announcement stating that it is a positive narrative for all the creative professionals who haven't really received anything coming from Apple in the past decade. According to 9to5mac, Cioni was previously featured in the known Final Cut Pro X documentary called Off The Tracks and has recognized that Apple has included the movie makers of today in its recent products.
It was stated that the new units allow movie makers to use their own high-end apps as well as open them simultaneously along with many multi-tasking oriented work. It was stated that Final Cut, Having Resolve, Frame.io, Adobe, as well as Nuke open at the very same time when most of the movie makers work and with the upcoming M1, Apple claims that it would be able to dramatically be able to improve this experience.
The Mac Pro was a 'trashcan'
Even Harry B. Miller, the Emmy-nominated film editor stated that the M1-powered Mac mini could even replace the previous Mac Pro machines. It was stated that most of the editing being done in the industry is either on the "trashcan" Macs. However, it seems as if the new Mac mini with the upgraded chip could make things much easier and also fairly cheaper to get rid of the old units and replace them.
Fox Studios was used as an example having refurbishing these Macs in order to keep them up to performance along with the CPU's and the memory for a majority of the more complex workflows. It was stated, however that it would altogether be much cheaper to just replace the units with the brand new Mac mini.
