This is not a drill: Elon Musk's 2018 joke finally makes its way as a legitimate product found on Tesla's website, with a new $250 Lightning-shaped bottle that contains the so-called "Tesla Tequila." The electric vehicle manufacturer promises a 100 percent de agave añejo tequila that is locally-made and available for shipping to select states that allow alcohol distribution.
The multinational electric car manufacturer and clean energy company, Tesla, recently debuted a limited-time release of its "Tesla Tequila" encased in a lightning-shaped bottle and is currently available on their website for $250. The "liquid gold" was a former joke of its co-founder and CEO, Elon Musk, but is now a legitimate product of the company.
The product may seem like a joke or a hoax from the company, but April Fool's Day is over for a couple of months now, and the product is listed on the company's website. According to its description, Tesla Tequila is a "sipping tequila" for nationwide shipping to selected states.
According to Electrek, Tesla's tequila product did not have any launching or announcement from the company and was only released to the public today. The company's website features the "liquid gold" alcohol they formulated, aged, and package.
The only mention of Tesla, tequila, and alcohol was two years ago. On April Fool's Day, Elon Musk jokingly said that the company is already bankrupt and the CEO passes out from drinking too much of the "Teslaquilla." The CEO clarified the announcement immediately in the same tweet that commemorates the entry of the new month.
Tesla Tequila 'Teslaquila': Legit Alcoholic Drinks in a Wicked Lightning Bottle
The clean energy company promises excellent flavor, taste, and drink with the Tesla Tequila, having 40 percent alcohol proofing and 750 ml offered in the bottle. The lightning-shaped bottle comes with its stand and holder to position the drink upright.
Tesla's website offers a 750 ml bottle for $250 on its website, which is a high price for a tequila bottle. The website says that the tequila is aged for 15 months in French oak barrels and packed into "hand-blown glass." Tesla Tequila's taste gives a "dry fruit and light vanilla nose with a balanced cinnamon pepper finish."
The alcoholic drink was aged for more than a year and have no prior announcements from the company. This explains why Tesla did not announce the small batch to public knowledge.
'Teslaquila' 2018's Trademark of the Name
According to Elon Musk's Twitter account (@elonmusk), the company tried to get into the tequila business in late 2018, several months after the initial April Fool's Joke mention Teslaquila. The witty wordplay that connected both Tesla and tequila was even applied for a trademark two years ago.
Elon Musk said that the alcoholic drink is "coming soon," and the soon which Musk refers to is today, two years into the future. The trademark process seems to have made the Tesla Tequila's packaging and sale in time, hence the common two-word name.
Tesla Tequila is available in a small batch for $250, available for shipping in all states that allow alcohol distribution.
