He announced that speculation on Tuesday, Nov. 3, following the South's National Intelligence Service's closed-door briefing. Currently, North Korea is known to have a large fleet of submarines.

However, only one of them was reportedly able to carry ballistic missiles. There are no confirmations yet whether it can specifically carry ICBMs (Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles) or short-range ballistic missiles.

"One of the submarines North Korea is building can carry a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM)," said Ha Tae-Keung, one of the parliament's intelligence committee's opposition party lawmaker in an interview with Reuters.

"One is a modified Romeo Class and the other is a new medium-large size one," he added.

This is quite true since North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was inspecting a large, newly built submarine in July 2019, as revealed by state media.

Although North Korea hasn't released any announcements yet regarding the submarine's weapons system, many analysts and experts claimed that the SUB's size was designed to carry missiles.

North Korea's Romeo-Mod submarine

Naval News previously reported that North Korea's unusual submarine called Romeo-Mod might increase the threat from the country. The Sub, which is also known as Sinpo-C, was revealed on North Korean TV on July 23, 2019.

It was revealed that the submarine will have Pukguksong-3 missiles. These weapons are considered as the hermit kingdom's best performing ballistic missiles.

Sinpo-C's missiles flew 450 km or 280 miles on October 2, 2019. The successful test also revealed that it could reach 910 km or 565 miles in altitude.

But, this feature can still reach a maximum range of at least 1,900 km or 1,200 miles.
