iPhone 12 Camera: What are the Features and How to Use?

Night Mode Portrait

According to Mac Rumors, using the Night Mode for the can be somewhat confusing, especially with the addition of the manual toggling of the low-light photography method. Here's how to use Night Mode:

  • Launch the Camera
  • Select Portrait Mode
  • Turn off the Flash (Night Mode won't be used with the flash turned on)

  • Press the Shutter button.

Night Mode in Everything: Photos and Videos

iPhone 12's Night Mode can be toggled in any mode of the phone, including capturing videos and time-lapses. According to CNet's James Martin's Twitter, videos can also catch a brighter shot even without the flash. Just toggle the crescent moon icon when doing so.

LiDAR Camera Scanner

Light Detection and Ranging Scanners, popularly known as LiDAR, are widely available in the "Pro" versions of the iPhone 12, offering a more in-depth integration in its camera. LiDAR uses light to capture details and images that can also identify the size of an object. The built-in function is more accurate than the typical radar that uses radio waves. LiDAR's scanners can also determine a person's height more accurately, compared to the previous "Measure" function of the iPhone.

HDR & Deep Fusion

iPhone 12's new camera captures light and develops better color matching for its outputs. HDR is one of iPhone's best technology when it comes to the camera. However, the current mode is the most advanced, giving more crisp and detailed photos. HDR can be toggled in the top tabs by clicking and turning "Auto", "On," or "Off."

Deep Fusion also helps in optimizing the photo to give more color and details, capturing every element as seen by the naked eye and camera. This function is already turned on and captures a more accurate display of color.

Ultrawide

The Ultrawide is a function that first saw Pro versions of the iPhone 11, binding it with the third camera. Now, the Ultrawide is more optimized, primarily with the Night Mode, and its easier integration when capturing photos. The camera captures more details, color, and accuracy that can pass as a professional camera capture. Even the entry-level iPhone 12 possess the Ultrawide mode now.
