A video posted in YouTube shows the Tesla Model 3 in its Full Self-Driving (Beta) mode while a Skydio 2 drone camera follows it whenever it goes. See how the artificial intelligence works in these two devices.
Skydio 2 versus Tesla
While the Skydio 2 already got a great array of reviews, there are some important points to take note as it went head to head with Tesla, which recently had a software upgrade.
After getting the proper upgrade, Tesla 3 can now drive in Full Self-Driving (FSD) mode. YouTube creator Brandon M created a challenge between the artificial intelligence in Tesla 3, driving in FSD mode using Beta 2020.40.8.11, which will be followed by Skydio 2.
The Skydio 2 did a great job in avoiding obstacles. Interestingly, Skydio 2 footage shows the machine making its decisions and it thinks ahead after facing a certain obstacle and overcoming it effortlessly. It was like having a really good pilot on the sticks, but the pilot is as smart as the Tesla Model 3 AI.
The challenge
The footage shows how the Skydio 2 drone goes through tight streets and avoids power and telephone lines. Tesla, on the other hand, did a fair job, despite some hiccups like in the 1:28 mark when it almost parked vehicle.
The Skydio 2 flew confidently while Tesla seemed to have problems processing its surrounding. Also, Tesla had a lot of consideration like identifying individuals, traffic flow, and other vehicles, among others. Thus, the Skydio 2's AI really rocks.
Skydio 2 price and specs
The Skydio 2 price starts at $999 depending on the add-ons included in the package. This self-flying drone is one of the most amazing devices ever touched as it has been practically impossible to get while crash-proof drone could crash while the aircraft is landing. Skydio gears up to an increase in demand while it aims to greatly increased the production capacity as the company.
Skydio 2 uses 45 megapixels of visual sensing throughout the six 200 degree color cameras, so it can see everything from all directions. Also, the 256 processing core and 4 GB RAM is a great deal as well. Skydio 2 is a flying supercomputer packed with NVIDIA Tegra TX2, which is the fastest, most power-efficient embedded software while it is capable of 256 GPU cores capable of 1.3 trillion operations per second. It has 4GB RAM.
Like almost everyone, the year 2020 was not a great time for Skydio as the world was struck by the coronavirus pandemic. Despite that, Skydio CEO Adam Bry claims his startup has not yet laid off anyone either. Meanwhile, the software was developed by people working from home. People collaborated with a testing team and went out to check on the a vacant space.
Skydio does not rely on drone sales to stay afloat as it also has some enterprise partnerships for infrastructure inspections, first responders, and the like.
