Telegram Deepfake Bot Strips Off Photos of Over 100,000 Women—Here's How Adobe Plans to Fight It!

Artificial intelligence chatbots gather submitted photos of women and transform them into deepfakes with more than 100,000 victims and counting. Deepfake photos through so-called Telegram Deepfake Bot are circulating freely on the web today, terrorizing women with edited photos of their face on naked bodies that can be used for harassment.

The technology only needs a clear face photo of a girl, even fully clothed ones, to transform it into deepfakes that anyone can use. The deceiving pictures create an almost convincing image of a person posing without clothes in front of a camera.

According to the Washington Post, the artificial intelligence is skillful in manipulating the photo and turning it into actual nude photographs from its massive database. The images generated by the AI have remarkable accuracy down to the skin tone, body integration, and female parts, replacing the previous photo's clothed version.

Submitting a clear photo would also result in a better-generated image from the AI, producing a nude version of the person with the AI's technology. The medium of communication that the AI and sender use is the highly-encrypted and cloud-based messaging application, Telegram.

Amsterdam-based cybersecurity start-up company, Sensity.ai first discovered the service in Telegram's messaging application. Sensity's researchers have found that the "deepfake" photo editing service was used globally, tying it up with several affiliations and members.

Telegram's messaging application has 100,000 members who have used the application globally, undressing women as they wish. According to the Washington Post's report, Sensity discovered that a massive 63 percent of the users know the women they undress in real-life.

The deepfake photos use women's bodies from pornographic websites and integrate them with the facial images of the submitted pictures through Telegram's autonomous chatbot. The naked photos are then used for personal fantasies that are harmful to women, with the persons unknowing of the incident.

Face Swapping AI: From Celebrities to 'Deepfakes'

Face Swapping began as a creative way to place one on another's foot, first seen on camera AI applications, popularized by Snapchat. Before, faces were swapped with consent, having the person beside one to create the "freaky friday" situation.

Swapping faces with celebrities were also a thing during the height of face-swapping technology. However, malicious beings are now using technology to endanger and disrespect women for their fantasies.

According to Fortune, an American software company, Adobe, recently created a tool to help distinguish a photo that was edited and transformed into deepfakes. The software company's venture aims to protect the deepfake's victims from the misleading images created by online artificial intelligence.

Users only need to activate the tool and have it scan the deepfake. The tool would do the job and perform as a detective to sleuth the photo and determine whether the image is authentic or manipulated through AI. The tool could also map the original photo from where the face was taken from.

Adobe's General Counsel says that the tool was created to protect people and media companies. Deepfakes create an "existensial threat to businesses," possibly being considered as the platform that helped in the editing.
