A video posted by the owner of a Japanese repair shop showing him repairing an overheating Nintendo Switch, which currently had increasing cases. While the cause is quite tricky, the technician teaches how to prevent Nintendo Switch from overheating using a simple trick.
Players using Nintendo Switch for hours of gameplay may lead to various issues in the console like fast draining of batteries. Just recently, the issue of overheating has been baffling device owners as well as the technicians as it is reportedly on the rise lately.
Nintendo Switch: Why is it overheating?
On September 22, Asuka Repair Hall Co., Ltd. shared a video on its YouTube account showing the company owner fixing an overheating console. The video shows the superhot Nintendo Switch with temperature reaching 79.4 degrees Celsius. Just cannot imagine how hot it could actually feel on the hand!
This recently brought the issue of overheating Nintendo Switch to Japan's attention as the owner said on the video he has seen an increasing cases of overheating on the gaming console. So why is it overheating?
Asuka Repair explained on the video that the bottom right-hand corner of the Nintendo Switch was too hot and reached up to 79.4 degrees Celsius that he cannot even touch it. He then shut it down immediately after seeing smoke coming out of the corner.
The repairman said the overheating was not caused by faulty fans or a problem with the CPU. He later opened up the unit and found the cause: the rail where Joy-Con controllers are slid in and out can collect dust and dirt, which causes short circuit that eventually leads to overheating.
In the earlier video of the shop, the repairmen explained how a bad fan commonly found on consoles with "CPU-21"-marked circuit boards could lead to overheating. The problem was then fixed by skipping the diode chip.
However, more cases of overheating consoles with working fans surface recently and video shows the console still overheats while its fan was still working and it was marked CPU-20. According to Asuka Repair, the issue can easily be prevented.
How to prevent Nintendo Switch from overheating?
Asuka Repair explains in the video that dust and debris can accumulate in the slider rail, which can lead to a short circuit and overheating. Thus, it requires some extra care.
To stop the console from overheating, Switch owners can slightly blow air into the area to remove dust in pockets of slider rail. They can also brush them gently with dry toothbrush. With this simple trick, owners can keep their Switch working properly for a longer time.
However, if the console becomes to feel hot in both hands, Asuka Repair urges owners to immediately take it to a repair store. If the console gets too hot, it may even cause fire.
Meanwhile, Asuka Repair removed the metal rail on the overheating console and replaced it with another. It was an easy repair as well, but it really made a huge difference as the temperature dropped to 41 degrees Celsius after making the replacement. Well, the repair will still cost some dollars, which can be saved by just doing that simple trick.
