After the launch of the iPhone 12 series on October 13, Apple rolled out its iPhone Upgrade Program pre-approvals for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro varieties, which would give those who signed up for the program an edge on their iPhone 12 upgrade before pre-order day begins.
As mentioned in the Apple Event 2020, pre-orders for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro will start on Friday, October 16, then first orders will arrive a week after on October 23. Currently, pre-approvals are being offered only for these two variants as iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max will hit the market on November 13, so pre-approvals is yet to begin by November 6.
The iPhone 12 features
With all the great features Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed the iPhone 12 will have, the new iPhone will surely have the fans drooling to get their hands on it. It will have a dual-lens camera with Ultra-Wide and 12-megapixel Wide lenses as well as 7-element lens, which enhance low-light performance by 27%.
The iPhone 12 will be packed with 5G connectivity, MagSafe or magnetic wireless charging system, and the new "Ceramic Shield" display that will make the screen of all iPhone 12 variants stronger than ever.
The new iPhone will bear the A14 Bionic chip, a six-core chip first introduced in the new iPad Air, which will give gamers better experience in playing mobile games, even the new League of Legends Wild Rift.

How to Sign-up for iPhone Upgrade Program
Since iPhone owners will be asked to return their old iPhone once they receive the iPhone 12 upgrade, it is best to check first if they are eligible to join the program. Just visit the Apple website or open the Apple Store app to check for upgrade eligibility and enter the Serial Number or the IMEI number of the current iPhone they have. The IMEI number can be found on Settings, under General > About.
For those who are eligible for upgrade, they may proceed with the iPhone Upgrade Program process online or visit an Apple Store to complete the pre-approval process. Here's how to get online pre-approval.
- To proceed online, just select the preferred model. Remember that the current pre-approvals are only available for iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro as the Mini and Pro Max variants will be available in November.
- Select the preferred AppleCare+ coverage package. Choose between the standard AppleCare+ or AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss.
- Enter mobile carrier account details.
- Have your personal information and credit or debit card on hand.
- For a credit check, provide the Social Security number and date of birth.
Note: Online pre-approvals require a valid U.S.-issued debit or credit card while prepaid cards are not allowed. For those who will sign up at an Apple Store need to bring a valid primary and secondary IDs with matching first and last names on both.
Once the pre-approval process has been completed, wait until Friday, October 16, and return to the Apple Store app to complete the order. Apple will begin receiving pre-orders at 8 a.m. ET.
Shipping of iPhone 12 and iPhone Pro orders will begin on October 23 with free delivery. Once the new iPhone has been received, the old unit should be returned to Apple. It is important to back up the data on the current iPhone data before trading it in.
