The internet is an excellent platform for cute cats' pictures and videos. You might have seen videos of these adorable felines while they're playing with a ball of yarn or even their own tails.
There are also pictures of cats beside their human versions. If you haven't seen them yet, then you should visit Gerrard Gethings's Instagram account. According to The Guardian's latest report, his new project focuses on taking pictures of cats and looking for people who look like them.
The photographer came up with this idea after seeing a cat online that looks like the actor David Schwimmer.
"There's something about the shape of Schwimmer's face that's quite interesting, and the cat had exactly the same face. That pushed me over the edge, into thinking there was something in it," said the London-based photographer. "Everyone's seen someone who looks like a dog. It's been an idea for ever. But I don't think people have thought that person looks a lot like a cat," he added.
How Gerrard Gethings find human models
The popular photog said that people who resemble cats are more difficult to find, unlike those who look like dogs. In his project, the individuals in his photos are not the owners of the felines. He chose the models through a casting process.
Gethings selected the cats' lookalikes based on their markings and unexpected poses. For example, the photographer chose a raver because the cat was captured, putting its paw in the air.
Gethings' 'Do You Look Like Your Dog?' project
The photog already did a similar project in 2018. According to Artsy's previous report, Gethings took a photo of 25 dogs and looked for possible human matches through an open call on social media for his "Do You Like Your Dog?" photography-based card game.
He said that he had difficulty in shooting 25 pairs of dogs and humans, and making them interesting, different, and amusing. Gethings added that it was really challenging and he had no choice, but to include two real dog owners.
