United Kingdom Parliament's defense committee released a new report, stating that there's clear evidence of Huawei and the Chinese Communist Party apparatus' "collusion." Because of the accusation, the country's lawmakers said that the telco's gear might be removed from the British networks by 2025, earlier than originally planned.
The statements provided by the U.K. now pressure Huawei even more since it was already blocked from Australia, Japan, and other key markets. It is also facing several sanctions from Washington D.C., which aim to totally cut off the telco from critical technologies, such as chips.
"This report lacks credibility, as it is built on opinion rather than fact," replied a spokesperson of Huawei against the accusation.
"We're sure people will see through these groundless accusations of collusion and remember instead what Huawei has delivered for Britain over the past 20 years," he added.
In July, the U.K. government said that the country's mobile network operators would have to stop purchasing Huawei's products by the end of 2020 and remove the company's gear from their infrastructure by 2027. The decision came after an emergency review of Huawei was conducted by the U.K.'s National Cyber Security Center.
Huawei's possible removal in 2025
The British Parliament's defense committee published a separate inquiry on Thursday, Oct. 8, explaining that removing Huawei's gear from U.K.'s 5G networks in 2027 is more reasonable. But, a 2025 timeline could be considered under specific circumstances.
On the other hand, the previous inquiry, which was launched in March, interview several U.S. politicians, technology experts, and the telecoms industry. U.K. lawmakers concluded that there is clear evidence of collusion between Huawei and Beijing based on the testimonies.
Why UK wants to remove Huawei
Earlier in 2020, the country's National Cyber Security Center said that the telco is a high-risk vendor since it is a Chinese company. The security agency added that Huawei could be ordered to act negatively against the U.K. since it is under China's National Intelligence Law of 2017.
