Instagram is a great mobile app for capturing certain events, especially those that are important to the users. To celebrate its 10th birthday, the social media platform adds new features, including a private "Stories Map" that will help users find old stories, even those that were posted three years ago.
The new Stories archive now has a new monthly calendar view, showing the days you posted each story, together with a map that shows story locations. Stories Map offers users a retrospective of their Stories, allow you to look back at your favorite moments.
However, some users may be surprised by the new feature since Instagram Stories' ephemeral nature deletes Stories from Facebook servers. This is not the first time that the social media platform has revived your old content to develop a new feature.
In 2017, Instagram also released a feature called "Story Highlights," which allows users to create a permanent home for their formerly ephemeral content.
Other new features in Instagram
IG also adds a selection of custom app icons. This will excite those people who have been recently inspired to redesign their devices' home screens. A Twitter user previously leaked the new designs of IG's icon, which were expected to be released for the app's "birthday release."
With the new custom app icons, iOS and Android users can now choose between a range of icons in shades of yellow, green, purple, black, orange, white, etc. If you want a more nostalgic display, you can also choose from several IG icon's classic versions. There is also a rainbow-colored Pride icon for the LGBTQ society.
On the other hand, two new anti-bullying features are also added as the National Bullying Prevention Month arrives. The first one will automatically hide comments that were already reported.
However, they're still visible under the label "View Hidden Comments," allowing users to see what was removed from the main comment feed. The second one includes an additional warning when people repeatedly try to post offensive statements.
IG already provides an AI-powered feature informing people if their remarks are considered offensive, giving them a chance to make changes before commenting.
