[Viral] Architect Makes Homes Out of Tires, Bottles, and Other Recyclable Materials: What is Biotecture?

An architect known as Michael Reynolds shared his passion stating that there are now more tires than trees and although it may be junk to some, for him, those are considered gold. A recent video on 60 Seconds Docs Presents, a Facebook Page, detailed the life of a certain architect that is looking towards a more eco-friendly future by building structures out of recyclable materials.

Michael Reynolds is trying to forward sustainable housing in New Mexico and according to him, they have actually found quite significant success in doing so. What Michael or Mike Raynolds is trying to achieve is something called biotecture where the building itself is also a source of not just physics but also supporting biology in order to create a self sufficient living home.

The man has been pretty popular

There are many videos about this man on YouTube and they all tell the story of how he lives and tries to further that particular lifestyle in order not just to be able to cause less damage to mother earth, but also be able to sustain himself in the process.

Biotecture is the process of making a structure that is supportive of biology giving space for vegetables to grow, providing enough sunlight, gathering water, etc. This is a very sustainable way of living but there are only a handful of people around the world that practice this.

Why it is important to look towards biotecture

Due to the massive damage we have done to our environment, there has been a lot of movement to try to reverse this damage in the form of both utilization and innovation towards sustainability like Elon Musk's Tesla when it comes to cars and Mike Reynolds' homes when it comes to living a sustainable lifestyle.

Although this lifestyle may seem kind of extreme for some, there are still a few people out there that are able to devote everything that they have into sustainable living. Some consider this off-the-grid but it does not necessarily have to be as extreme.

The Mike Raynolds' lifestyle

Some people who practice semi-sustainable living still work normal jobs and live normal lives. The only difference is that they prefer to grow their own produce to save money and live off of things that do the least damage to the environment.

This lifestyle may not be for everyone but for Mike Reynolds, he was able to turn his passion for architecture into something that is beneficial not just for him but also for other people in New Mexico. Another reason he is doing what he is doing is not just for the environment, but to help certain people cope with poverty and show them that there is a way to have beautiful homes with recycled materials.
