Apple industry has recently acquired a recent startup that actually makes listening to podcasts in general much more like simply tuning into the radio stations. The company seeks to improve its own offered services amid the fast growing competition that Spotify Technology SA has brought.
The acquisition of Scout FM
The startup's name is The Cupertino which is a California-based technology giant that sparked earlier this year and bought the known Scout FM, which was quite a popular podcast app for Androids, Android devices, iPhones, and other Amazon smart speakers. This was according to people that had knowledge of this industry-changing deal.
While these podcast apps just like Apple usually work by allowing users to pick out an individual podcast for them to listen to, Scout FM actually created certain podcast stations that focus on different topics. For example, if a certain person is interested in genres like sports, the app would then create a certain station that in turn mixes together a good curated selection of certain sports podcasts.
The app actually determines a person's own interests based on their listening history, the inputs of their preferences, and also the suggestions from certain artificial-intelligence based podcast software.
Scout FM was already known
Scout FM was already pretty popular among a number of Apple device users and could also be integrated with the known CarPlay, the whole interface that actually appears on the supported car screens whenever connected to the Apple's iPhone, and also Apple's very own Siri digital assistant. It was also brilliantly optimized for other devices based on Amazon.com Inc.'s known Alexa.
A certain Apple spokesman has recently confirmed the booming acquisition, but declined to give further comment regarding the details of the acquisition. The company has already shut down the app after Apple's purchase took place.
The power of podcasts
Podcasts have currently been growing massively and are now an increasingly key area for certain Apple content. The known iPhone maker was actually one of the world's first technology players to make podcasting popular. Except, this was 15 years ago and there have been a lot of changes that have happened since then. Ever since the acquisition, there were a number of new features that were slowly added to the Podcast app that span across nearly every single one of its devices.
Apple is currently developing original podcasts that aim to tie into the known Apple TV+ according to a report by Bloomberg News some time earlier this year. This also comes as the known competitor, Spotify, has already quickly acquired a huge stockpile of different podcasts. This includes the popular and valuable exclusive rights to the Joe Rogan show, a popular comedian and TV host. Apple's deal with Scout FM is only one of the several deals that Apple has been able to achieve over the span of 2020.
