Tesla gears up to offering the most advanced color technology for its electric vehicles as its factories in China now offer wrapping services.
As different people have their unique personalities, they want to extend their character to their cars with its colors and features. According to InsideEVs,Tesla recognizes that the color for the car also plays a key part throughout the buying process.
Thus, the company has now been investing to new technologies for its factory paint shops worldwide. In August, Tesla China is now offering its in-house vinyl wrap services for its delivery centers in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Suzhou. However, Tesla will expand this service to various locations across China.
Tesla China announced this wrap service through Chinese social media platform Weibo with photos of a yellow-wrapped Model X. Compared to merely traditional paint jobs, utilizing a variety of vinyl wraps means the company will have more colors in its palette for its customers to choose from, although the actual colors were not specified.
Wrapping Teslas seems to be a trend in some communities with companies like the South Florida-based Signature Custom Wraps offering the service. And it has been doing great in wrapping Teslas in stunning colors like , Ocean Shimmer Blue, Nardo Grey, Metallic Midnight Red, and Tangerine Dream.
Also, Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted: "Giga Berlin will have world's most advanced paint shop, with more layers of stunning colors that subtly change with curvature." Perhaps, the company will have wider array of colors for the American market, so buyers no longer need to pay for third-party wrapping service.
Meanwhile, Musk added that Fremont and Shanghai paint shops will be "upgraded" as well, which means Tesla vehicles are still offered with a few color options until such time that the upgrade is completed.
During some of its events, Tesla has recently showcased some of its prototype cars in a wrap. A matte black vinyl wrapped- Model 3 was showcased during Tesla's official launch event in. This early matte black Model 3 prototype appeared in Tesla's own video footage to promote the brand (see an archived clip from this video below).
Tesla Cybertruck getting wrapped
If the wrapping service becomes successful in China, Tesla could offer it worldwide, and perhaps cover the Cubertruck as well. Well, that's also a possibility.
In April, Musk made some exchanges of tweets with his Twitter followers when he hinted that buyers could have any color on the Cybertruck. The all-electric pickup is the epitome of a muscle truck with its steel body and huge wheels.
Aside from heating the steel to get different colors, Musk replied to a question about Tesla Cybertruck color options saying buyers "will be able to wrap it in any color or pattern." This means the owners will have their options whether to wrap their vehicle or not.
