Researchers with the Top 10 Casino website administered a Buss Perry Aggression Questionnaire to almost 1000 players in the video game community to determine the most toxic and blood-boiling game there is to date. The study finds shooter games, Battlefield and Call of Duty, to top the most toxic environment for a gamer.
The website that ranks almost anything delved into the world of gaming to determine what game makes a player angry. Top 10 Casino worked with psychologists to determine and study what causes this aggression and negative attitude that leads people to develop anger issues. Games are a massive part and reason that contributes to formative development of a child or even to those who transition to young adulthood.
The study aims to determine which game makes a player the angriest and sends them over the edge. The study revealed excruciating and surprising details that are found to be unbelievable to part of the list. While the study aims to inform gamers of the statistics, this is also beneficial to those who wish to remain in a healthy environment of gaming.
In a nutshell, the Battlefield series and Call of Duty tops the list for the highest statistics that sources aggression. The categories include Physical Aggression, Verbal Aggression, Anger, and Hostility. Electronic Arts' first-person shooter game tops almost every category except for Hostility, which surprisingly, is taken by Minecraft, according to Comic Book.
Games with Toxic Community and Environment
The list dived more into the games that trigger anger and aggression amongst players, listing all that contributes to the four categories of negative attitude that is promoted in gaming. The study revealed 13 widely-popular titles that players attest to of having toxicity.
The 13 games include (in order): Battlefield, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, FIFA, Animal Crossing, Grand Theft Auto Online, Minecraft, Fortnite, Super Smash Bros., Pokemon, MarioKart, The Sims, Angry Birds, and Candy Crush Saga.
Surprisingly, even smartphone games such as Angry Birds and Candy Crush made it to the list that promotes toxicity and triggers aggression. Also, the study lists Nintendo's Animal Crossing to be in the top 5, rising above Rockstar's GTA Online in the toxic meter.
The list further shows simulation games such as The Sims and Animal Crossing to promote anger and toxicity.
Only five games found in the study revolves around shooting and violence, while the rest are from the sports, simulation, sandbox video games, adventure, and racing.
Platforms and Other Toxic Gaming Statistics
The researchers also went around to determine other elements that revolve around gaming, such as video game platforms, gender, and broken gaming equipment.
The most toxic video game platform ranks Microsoft's Xbox to have the most toxic and angry players, followed by PlayStation, Computers or PC, Mobile or Smartphones, and Nintendo. Xbox tops all of the four categories, Physical Aggression, Verbal Aggression, Anger, and Hostility. The top three platforms list the most used gaming equipment with Xbox, PlayStation, and PC completing the trinity.
Male gamers also rise to the first spot, topping all four categories against female gamers. Despite the data shown by the study, a lot of factors may still affect what titles and platforms are most toxic. The study only focused on a small fraction of the gaming community and is not a worldwide study.
