Niantic Labs has finally added Mega Evolution to Pokemon GO, a common feature in the franchise's main games.
Mega Raid Tasks and Rewards
As with previous Pokemon GO events, the Mega Raids also come with Field Research tasks that you can get from spinning PokeStops and the rewards for completing them.
According to HITC, the tasks were shared online via Twitter by @LeekDuck, who shares the game's updates.
Here are the following tasks and rewards you can get during the Mega Raids event in-game:
- Win a raid - Encounter with Lotad (Combat Power ranges from 230 to 256)
- Win 3 raids - Encounter with Aerodactyl (CP ranges from 1136 to 1193)
- Win 5 raids - Encounter with Chansey (CP ranges from 490 to 537)
- Win a mega raid - Encounter with Cranidos (CP ranges from 730 to 780)
- Battle in a raid - 500 Stardust
- Battle another trainer - 5 Venusaur Mega Energy, 5 Blastoise Mega Energy, or 5 Charizard Mega Energy
Based on the report, the Mega Evolution themed events will only last until September 28, and that the Mega Raids will only be available until September 7, apparently.
Earning Mega Energy
For those who are not aware, the Pokemon GO Mega Raids are similar to Legendary Boss Raids when it comes to difficulty but features the Mega Evolutions of certain Pokemon, including the original three base monsters Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle.
Nevertheless, unlike the five-star raids, Pokemon GO players will only acquire Mega Energy from the Mega Raids and a chance to get the Pokemon in its basic last form.
The Mega Energy you acquire from the raids will allow you to transform your Pokemon into its Mega form, which makes it extra powerful and useful for battles and raids--but as with the main games, the Mega Evolution is temporary.
But that isn't precisely the problem players have with the new feature.
Fans Aren't Too Happy
According to Eurogamer, many aren't too crazy about the Mega event since the game has been giving out Mega Energy quite sparingly, making it tough to earn much and Mega Evolve their Pokemon when they need it.
Furthermore, fans have been criticizing the rewards from the raid, including the non-Mega Pokemon, and the requirement to battle it with as many other trainers as possible to earn more Mega Energy.
Moreover, many Pokemon GO players say that the duration of the Mega Evolutions is not long enough for them to do much with the super powerful and useful Pokemon, so many aren't exactly keen on grinding to get the Mega Energy and Mega Evolve their monsters.
Nevertheless, it seems like Niantic Labs is listening to what their followers have to say.
In the subreddit r/TheSilphRoad, the developer has asked for more feedback from the players and promised that they are "actively listening" to what the players have to say.
"Thanks for all the feedback that you've all shared on Mega Raids," a Niantic staff member wrote on the post. "A lot of it has been seen by our teams, and we're happy to hear about the parts you've enjoyed!"
"We also hear your feedback loud and clear," they wrote and promised that they are working on fixing this concern and that some changes are coming.
