Google Maps Hack: How to Maximize the Saved Tab Feature

Google released some updates on Google Maps on Aug. 26 that will make it easier to sort their favourite places.

According to The Verge, these small revisions have made the Saved tab more useful than it seems. It allowed people to bookmark their favourite places and even create a list for them, bringing more potential to it like having a tool that works like a travel diary and a to-do list for those places you want to visit.

When the location history is switched on, users can sort the locations by proximity. They will also be sorted by the time these locations are saved using the Timeline feature.

1. Know when you're close to a place you've saved before

When you already saved a lot of places, it can be hard to choose a place to go. When you enabled the location, all the nearby places you saved in Google Map are arranged in a carousel and sorted by proximity for easy browsing and to help you make a decision easily.

2. Remember the places you have visited

In the Google Map setting, enable the Location History, so you can utilize the Timeline to recall the places that you have already visited as well as the paths you have taken. This will give you a hint on how far you have ran, biked, and travelled over the past few days. These details can be organized now by time, region, city, or country.

3. Remember the most recent saved location

When a colleague or friend recommended a place, but you have not visited it yet after a few days or weeks, it will be hard to remember the name of the place was. However, the most recent saved places are organized at the top of the Saved tab, it will be easier to find the place you are looking for.

While the update makes it easier to sort the locations in case there are already a lot of places saved, it is quite frustrating to use the Saved tab.

Primarily, this will result in numerous saved places that will mess up the map without a quick way to toggle labels on and off, although it allows hiding them individually.

This immediately discourages users from saving places and using the features. After rolling out new visual enhancements on August 18, Google Map has now become more detailed and easier to understand. The map provides more details, which are a great help for those who opt to walk or travel solo. Perhaps, Google could do more to urge people to use it more often.
