New concept art made by an artist reimagines a black and sleek design for the all-in-one Apple flagship computer, the iMac.
9 to 5 to Mac shares a concept art by Daniel Bautista that imagines the iMac as a sleek and sexy desktop, resembling the likes of a bigger iPad Pro attached to its Pro Stand. The main difference is that it is permanently attached to it, as all iMacs are.
It is known that this year would not see the release of the Apple desktop and will likely have the same design from the previous model as Apple announced it on the online WWDC. The company is holding off in its release and announcements regarding the new iMac until next year.
The previous rumor suggests only a redesigned iMac with its performance upgrades that will probably release this summer. However, the Apple World Wide Developers Conference or WWDC 2020 last June held online due to the pandemic, failed to do so. Apple patrons will have to wait further on what the company has in store for its desktop.
Apple also gave the public a teaser with iMac's upgrade sporting a new Apple Silicon chip. This is different from the rumored new 10-core Intel i9 CPU and AMD Radeon GPU.
iMac Reimagined
Artist, Daniel Bautista, shares his vision for the redesigned iMac that sports a unique, sleek body, resembling more like a flat monitor. Its edges are reduced to give the user more of the image from the display, much like the 'edge-to-edge' design of the new iPhones.
"The main goal of this project is to imagine what the next step of the iMac product line could look like. The iMac's design despite of being iconic, needs to be refreshed to be consistent with Apple's new products. Many users want a design with an edge-to-edge screen similar to devices like the iPhone X and the iPad Pro." Bautista said.
Bautista notes that iMac's design is iconic; however, it needs a embody the revamped design of the new aesthetic of Apple's line of new products. The iMac's current look is based on its design from 2012. The eight-year stint of the desktop is an icon that raised the quality and design for modern one-piece computer PCs.
Bautista's concept featured Apple's Magic Keyboard reimagined with backlit keys, making it more appealing to users who are situated or prefers a dark workplace setting. He also transforms the base of the iMac's stand into a wireless charging port that may be used for Apple's Magic Mouse. This gives the idea that that wireless charging area would be available for use for Apple's wireless charging capable devices.
The iMac concept design also suggests a feature of the desktop to have an upgraded security system with the use of the FaceID. Many Apple users wish for their laptops, with the likes of the MacBook, to have a FaceID similar to the features available on the iPhone and iPad. Apple is planning to add the FaceID functionality in future installations of the famous notebook. Bautista also reimagines the iMac with Thunderbolt USB Type C ports for faster data transfer from the iMac and its devices.
