Pizza Hut will be adding toilet paper, instant noodles, grocery, medicines, and other essential goods on its delivery menu to help customers with their daily needs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In an exclusive report from Daily Mail Australia, Pizza Hut Chief Executive Officer Phil Reed said he has piloted a program to aid those who are worse hit by the coronavirus crisis. The Helping Hands Essentials program will allow people who lack access to stores to use the pizza delivery hotline for their daily needs.
On Sunday, Aug. 2, Victoria's premier Dan Andrews dropped the announcement putting Australia's second-largest state under a "state of disaster" after the country recorded 671 new COVID-19 cases in a day.
"We have to do more right now," Andrews said as the country continues to struggle to mitigate the health crisis that has affected almost all countries in the world, according to BBC News.
With the new rules, Melbourne will be under a curfew between 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., at least until Sept. 13. "Where you slept last night is where you'll need to stay for the next six weeks," Andrews added.
This is when Pizza Hut's Helping Hands Essentials may be utilized as people lose access to necessities as they will be locked up at home. The company's existing nationwide home delivery infrastructure with contact-less payment options can be used to aid those who are needy.
Unlike the supermarkets that had difficulty with the delivery of grocery orders at the onset of the crisis, customers could still call Pizza Hut and get a pizza within 30 minutes.
Pizza Hut is still meeting with health authorities, emergency services, and various other government agencies about how its system could help the authorities. While there is still no exact date when the program will be launched, people can continue calling the hotline for pizza.
