Microsoft will be launching its new parental control and screen time app on July 29, which will be publicly available on Android and iOS. The new app called Family Safety will allow parents to have more insights into how their children use their screen time devices.
Techcrunch's latest report explained that with proper understanding, the parents can configure boundaries around web access, set limits, and create time schedules, as well as track the location of other family members. The report said that Microsoft Family Safety can compete with other parental control technologies built into Android and iOS.
The new app will work best for those users who have already bought into Microsoft's own ecosystem of services and products, just like its other competitors. This includes those people who already own Xbox devices and Windows 10 PCs.

The Family Safety app works just like other screen time apps since it provides an activity log of how screen time is being used by your children. It can track the hours your kids spent on devices such as phones, Windows computers, Xbox, as well as across apps and websites. Not only that, it can also show the parents the terms their children are searching online.
How Microsoft came up with the innovation
Parents received a weekly report via email, suggesting that discussions around healthy use of screen time should be conducted since the number of hours that the children spent using their devices is already a complicated subject before the global pandemic even started.
The report explained that the issue got worse since kids are attending schools through online classes, and spending their summer playing video games while parents still try to work without childcare.
Many families are now considering what amount of screen time is healthy for their children since staying at home is becoming the new normal. Microsoft's innovation might help solve this current issue since the new app can set screen time limits that apply across different devices.
It can be adjusted to allow your children to have more time accessing educational apps that facilitate online learning and limit other types of screen time like gaming. The parents are the ones to decide if their kids can have more time on their device once it runs out. The Family Safety app also controls other app purchases by granting approval to kids' requests to avoid sudden bills.
