FDA Expands List of Recalled Dangerous Sanitizers, Including Bad Health Effects

Before you even use the hand sanitizer you have, are you certain this is safe for the health? This is from the latest Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warning indicating that 75 more hand sanitizers have been branded "potentially dangerous" for the health, in line with the COVID-19 pandemic. Plus, they may even cause blindness and death.

Yahoo! News reported that these sanitizers are added more to the list posing serious threats upon human health. It has been said that these products generally contain methanol, a component that offers detrimental effects for the person's well-being.

This latest warning from the FDA involved consumers and health workers who are utilizing these sanitizers that must contain ethanol to be more effective. However, instead of the chemical, these products tested positive for methanol.

Methanol is wood alcohol and could be toxic when the skin absorbs compounds or liquids that contain this. It can also be deadly when swallowed.

COVID-19 in the United States

The demand for these hand sanitizers is seen to reach higher levels, especially that there are reports the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States has reached the four million thresholds. There are now 4.11 million confirmed cases in the country.

According to the FDA, "The agency is aware of adults and children ingesting hand sanitizer products contaminated with methanol that has led to recent adverse events including blindness, hospitalizations and death."

The agency is recalling these products since the experts believe that the most vulnerable will be the younger children, as well as adults and teenagers who may have the tendency to yield to methanol poisoning.

Previously, Tech Times reported nine hand sanitizers that also tested positive for these negative side effects for the health.

Walmart

These hand sanitizers, believe it or not, are even old at Sam's Club and BJ's Wholesale Club, two stores operated by Walmart.
