Elon Musk is canceling the cheapest version of Tesla's Model Y, as the price range would be too low for the model. At the same time. Tesla is also planning to make a lower price version in a few months. Tesla is known for changing its vehicle configuration ever since through its vehicle line up which makes its cars distinct and valuable.
Tesla's automakers make sure to use different lineup versions, from using simple kWh capacity of its battery pack to identify its configurations in such using terms as the Standard range, Standard Range Plus, and Long Range.
Tesla's Model Y
Last March 2019, Tesla launched the Model Y. It's the electric compact crossover utility vehicle (CUV) which is also the second based on Model 3. However, for the following years, they have updated Model 3 configurations. The company has long promised to release another version with a cheaper amount down to $35,000. Tesla created a 'Standard Range' version available, but it is not listing anywhere.
Instead of releasing the model created, Tesla developed another new 'Standard Range Plus' version of the Model 3, which also has a slightly more extended range than the previous and starts at $38,000. Before launching Model Y, Elon Musk stated that the different versions of the electric SUV would be $5,000 more expensive of the same versions of Model 3.
After starting to receive actual orders and deliveries for the Model Y last March, Tesla has only been delivering the two high-end versions of the electric SUV: Performance versions and Long Range Dual Motor. The Standard Range version is expected for Tesla's Model 3.
A Newer Version
Unfortunately, CEO Elon Musk has now announced through twitter that Tesla will not sell those versions. Instead, he is addressing about Tesla launching a 'Long Range RWD' version, which would by far become the new cheapest Model Y:
While launching the first version of Model 3 in 2017, Tesla was selling the vehicle with a Long Range RWD version, but it ended up ceasing the configuration. Just recently, the model was also launched back in China after the company started its production at Gigafactory Shanghai, but it is not yet available anywhere else.
With all the exposed information, Tesla sounds to offer the same version of the vehicle for Model Y in a few months as they pointed out. Musk also indicated that it would cost roughly $45,000
Now it sounds like Tesla plans to offer the same version of the vehicle for Model Y "in a few months" and he indicated that it would cost about $45,000. Elon Musk also mentioned that the range should be "significantly higher than 300 miles".
