Those who never had the opportunity to see "Hamilton" can now watch Lin-Manuel Miranda's award-winning musical via Disney+ on July 3.
While the musical about Alexander Hamilton is initially scheduled to stage on Oct. 15, 2021, it was fast-tracked for release on Independence Day when people are quarantined amid the coronavirus pandemic.
According to York Dispatch, Miranda who earned a Pulitzer Prize for writing the Broadway musical announced the good news on Good Morning America. He said the film was taken in 2016 at New York City's Richard Rodgers Theatre featuring the original cast, including Leslie Odom Jr. playing Aaron Burr and Daveed Diggs playing the Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson.
"It was basically a three-day film shoot with the best-rehearsed cast in the history of the movies because we had all been doing the show for a year at this point," said Miranda who originally played Alexander Hamilton.
"I'm really glad we had the luxury to basically shoot an independent film in our first year and now the world can see what it felt like to be in that room," he added.
Renee Elise Goldsberry, Phillipa Soo, and Jasmine Cephas Jones originally played the Schuyler Sisters in Hamilton.
"We would sing anything that was happening in three-part harmony," said Goldsberry as they shared a dressing room and would often be harmonizing together backstage.
"I find it a revelation to the last moment and you'll know what I mean when you see this movie. That even at the very last moment, you think it's over, but it's not," said Goldsberry adding that the last moment of the Disney+ film was "probably the most breathtaking."
However, Goldsberry said she will not give away what the scene was. "I won't spoil it," she added.
Odom, meanwhile, feels excited as the cast members are able to revisit the work they did four years ago, so "it's a really rare gift" and she feels grateful about it. He won a Tony for his role in Hamilton.
Walt Disney Co. is the parent company of ABC News and "Good Morning America."
How to stream Hamilton on Disney+
Starting July 3, Disney+ subscribers can access "Hamilton". No end date was provided, so it will be more than just a streaming premiere. For theater fans who have already seen the live performance, the streaming service will be a welcome treat.
In 2016, Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical earned a record-setting 16 Tony nominations, so is it really worth the publicity?
Watching the original Broadway cast play in this critically-acclaimed show, the answer is yes. While it set a record for the highest average ticket on Broadway, Disney+ subscribers who pay the $7 monthly fee can access it anytime.
This will give a boost to the theatre industry that has been hit by the pandemic as numerous productions have been halted while theaters across the United States remain closed.
Seeing "Hamilton" for the first time is like watching any movie for the first time in which the audience grasps the plot, revels in each scene, and feel the emotion throughout the experience.
The best part perhaps is that the viewers can hit the pause button when they need time to digest the scene or dialogue, when they need to go to the bathroom, or when they want to grab snacks. And then they can easily hit the play button and resume watching.
