Black Lives Matter protests are now all over the United States. Several looters, damages, and injuries were reported in each state. Interestingly, it is not the only thing that makes these protests more special. A couple recently gets engaged while they were in the middle of the protest. Luckily, the girl said 'Yes.'
Love also matters in Black Lives Matter protests
Not only riots are the only thing to expect in BLM protests. A man recently shared his special moment in social media after proposing to his pregnant girlfriend while in the middle of a protest in North Carolina.
Xavier Young, 26, did not know how or when to propose to his long-time girlfriend. Suddenly, Marjorie Alston, 23, told him that she wanted to join the protest near their area in Raleigh.
"When Marjorie came home, she said, 'Hey pumpkin, we are going to protest today,'" Young told "Good Morning America."
It was both of their first time to join a mass protest. The first thing that Young did is to make sure that he will be with Alston when she joined the event-- to make she's safe since she was also pregnant.
"She is not going alone, because I want to make sure my lady and the little one on the way are protected, and [we'll] march together," Young said.
When the protests started
Both of them packed their bags and necessities and joined the mass protests in North Carolina. Young said that he couldn't help himself to be mesmerized by his girl with his activism in action.
"I'd been kind of just watching her protest and make her voice known and make herself known, being seen, and I was like, yeah, this is the girl I want to be with," Young tells PEOPLE.
Young suddenly gets to his one knee, acting like he was about to reach for bottled water.
"I made it seem like I wanted to take in some water because I was hot and tired, and instead of pulling a bottle of water out of my bag, I pulled out the ring and then boom," he says. "It was a proposal."
Alston was shocked when her boyfriend brought out the ring to the public. She said that her first instinct is to run-- since everyone's looking at them, but said 'yes' immediately.
The couple is expecting to get married on Sept. 2021. However, for now, they first wanted to make sure that Alston's labor will be successfully and safely made soon.
"We'll have a baby by then," he says, "so we'll just take that baby and hit the dance floor."
