Pokemon GO Update: New AR Feature Will Make It Blend Better with The Real World; Samsung and Google Pixel to Have Limited Release

Pokemon Go will blend into the real even better with its new augmented reality feature. However, the limited release will only be available on selected devices such as Samsung and Google Pixel.

According to Engadget's latest report, Niantic will make the game more immersive since the augmented reality effect of Pokemon Go has always been a bit unappreciated because its critters can only float in front of objects as featured in the current version of the game.

Pokemon Go will test its new feature called Reality Blending that will allow users' Buddy Pokemon to hide behind trees and other realistic objects using a newer AR functionality. The report said the innovation provides a less jarring feature compared to its current status that has no object recognition at all.

The official website of Pokemon Go confirmed that the company will be releasing two new features: Reality Blending, and Pokestop Scanning to improve the experience of trainers as they walk, take snapshots, and also play with their own Pokemon.

However, only selected devices will have the limited release of the game's new AR feature. The Samsung Galaxy S10, Samsung Galaxy S9, Google Pixel 4, and Google Pixel 3 will be allowed to take advantage of the latest AR functionality that will allow its owners' Buddy Pokemon to appear more realistically in the physical world. The company will test the new Reality Blending feature in the game's snapshots.

The Reality Blending feature will provide the device with object recognition that will allow the Pokemon to partially or completely hide behind a real object. A dynamic 3-D map of existing Gyms and PokeStops is currently in development by Niantic to further refine and develop the AR features of Pokemon Go.

An opt-in feature called PokeStop Scan will be brought first to level 40 trainers in early June before it will be available to more players. Pokemon trainers can also take part in the company's mission by uploading videos of real-life Gym and PokeStop locations to Pokemon Go that will help in mapping.

By recording a stream of images and videos using their phones while walking around their favorite public places, Pokemon players can contribute to the development of the 3D maps. The company said that recognizable objects such as license plates and faces will be blurred to ensure the safety of people's sensitive information. Niantic clarified that it doesn't collect personal data and it is not tied to the specific accounts of the players.
